Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) Development Platform Demonstrated by Fideris Inc. and HTceramix SA
Turnkey system reduces barrier to entry to financially promising SOFC development field
Hannover, Germany, April 13, 2005 -- Fideris Inc., a leading provider of innovative test solutions to fuel cell developers, catalyst companies, and research centers, and HTceramix SA (HTc), a leading commercial SOFC stack provider, today demonstrated an SOFC research and development platform at the Hannover Fair in Hannover, Germany. Solid oxide fuel cell systems are a promising technology for solving critical energy and environmental problems. The platform will be marketed to SOFC researchers and industrial labs preparing to enter the SOFC market.
Solid oxide fuel systems can be used in high power applications including industrial and large-scale central electricity generating stations and as auxiliary power units for vehicles. SOFC systems are highly efficient and have significant promise in highly profitable markets; however, the high temperatures needed to run the systems have made testing and validation difficult.
The turnkey system demonstrated by Fideris and HTceramix will allow researchers to install an SOFC system in approximately four hours. The unit demonstrated here includes an HTc 5-cell SOFC fuel cell stack and a Fideris test system.
According to Professor Daniel Favrat of Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, "This turnkey system reduces one of the key hurtles faced by researchers and educators entering the field of SOFC. Access to SOFC experimental and diagnostic data has never been so easy."
The integrated turnkey system includes Fideris FCPowerTM software, an advanced software package that allows plug and play simplicity with a user-friendly graphical interface. A plug and play system allows the later addition of new components. Customers can augment their system with Fideris equipment or equipment manufactured by other suppliers. Customers can add analytical instruments, water chillers, dewpoint measurement devices and other components to an existing Fideris test system without software modifications. In addition, the software provides continuous data logging into a single data file, significantly aiding data analysis.
"Fideris strives to provide total solutions to their customers," states Fideris President Jeff Bentley. "Testing and validation are strategic to fuel cell development which costs the industry over $400M annually. This turnkey system is another example of our commitment to helping our customers maximize their testing investment and accelerate their time to market."
"The SOFConnexTM based stack uses a unique approach for stacking ceramic fuel cells," states Olivier Bucheli, Managing Director, HTc. "By integrating our SOFC system with a Fideris test system, we have created a turnkey solution that will help us move this technology into the hands of potential partners and researchers."
Fideris and HTc will jointly market this platform to universities, research labs, technical schools and potential end users for SOFC. Fideris and HTc expect to continue their collaboration by developing advanced measurement solutions such as impedance spectroscopy for cell and stack quality assurance.
The system demonstrated at the Hannover Fair is available for immediate sale and can be scaleable for various testing applications.

Fideris to Unveil New Productivity Solutions at Fuel Cell Seminar
On-site demonstrations will feature remote date and remote control aspects of company's innovative software for fuel cell test stations; Raffle to be held for handheld PDA demo
Lowell, Massachusetts, October 27, 2004 - Fideris Inc., a leading provider of innovative test solutions to fuel cell developers, catalyst companies, and research centers, today announced it will demonstrate two new engineering productivity tools at the Fuel Cell Seminar, being held at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, from November 1-5, 2004. The on-site demonstrations, which will be conducted during the seminars exhibition hours, will feature the remote data and remote control aspects of Fideris Incorporated's robust, versatile, FCPowerTM software application. The application is designed to help engineers better interact with, monitor, and control their fuel cell test systems.
The remote data demonstration will show how users can monitor and control FCPowerTM software via a web-based interface. The remote control demonstration will illustrate how users can run the same software on a remote machine as on the host machine and still interact with their test systems.
Most remote control systems run on the remote machine. If the Internet connection to the host machine is lost, the test is automatically terminated. This forces many tests to be rerun, increasing test time and expense. With the new Fideris system, all operations are conducted on the host machine rather than on the remote machine. Users may lose and regain their Internet connection, however, the test will continue without interruption.
"We're trying to break the traditional boundaries of lab-based testing that keeps engineers tied to their work stations," said Craig Andrews, Chief Technology Officer at Fideris. "This is an easy-to-use and integrated solution that will help engineers monitor and control testing from virtually anywhere while optimizing their productivity and performance."
In addition, the company announced it will hold a raffle for one of the HP iPAQ 4155 Pocket PCs used in the demonstration. Please visit the Fideris Booth (#523 & #525) to register for the drawing, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 3, at 4 p.m.

Lynntech Industries Secures Series A Equity Financing

Chrysalix Energy, Braemar Energy Ventures, Altira invest $5.5 million to establish independent fuel cell test solutions company
College Station, Texas, June 15, 2004- Lynntech Industries, Inc., a leading developer of fuel cell test solutions, announced today that it has secured $5.5 million in series A equity financing. Chrysalix Energy Limited Partnership of Vancouver, BC, and Braemar Energy Ventures of New York, NY, led the investment with co-investor Altira of Denver, CO. The capital increase will be used to expand the company's development capabilities and service/sales operations.
With the investment, Lynntech Industries is now positioned as the leading independent provider of test solutions in the fuel cell market, a key differentiator in an industry where confidentiality of information is essential. In conjunction with the financing, the company will be spun out from its parent organization, Lynntech, Inc., to become an independent operation in which Lynntech, Inc. becomes a minority shareholder with no role in operations or corporate governance.
"As fuel cells advance toward commercialization, a critical component to success will be innovation in testing and analysis of sophisticated data," said Jeffrey Bentley, Chief Executive Officer of Lynntech Industries. "With the investment in place, we have the resources to continue providing customers with industry-leading solutions that reduce the time and cost of testing. This investment will also allow us to provide additional related services that our customers want, such as confidential, independent fuel cell testing services."
Complementing the investment news, the company also announced that Dr. Craig Andrews will serve as Chief Technology Officer for Lynntech Industries. As the primary architect behind Lynntechs technology achievements, he will play a major role in solving client issues. "We appreciate the diversity of our customers, the differences in their testing needs, and the demands of the fuel cell researcher," said Andrews. "This is reflected in the design and capabilities of our fuel cell test systems and solutions, such as FCPowerTM testing software, that are built around a flexible and scaleable modular technology platform."
"We believe Lynntech Industries has the potential to be a dominant player in a large and strategically critical portion of the fuel cell industry," said Christine Bergeron, Vice President, Investments with Chrysalix Energy Management. The syndicate looks forward to working with the company's talented and innovative team members as fuel cells move closer toward commercialization. In conjunction with the financing, Christine Bergeron from Chrysalix Energy Management, Neil S. Suslak from Braemar Energy Ventures, and James R. Newell from Altira will each join the company's Board of Directors.
