Bubble Type Humidification Frequently Asked Questions

Bubble Type Humidifier
1.  How does FiderisTM bubble type humidifier work?
2.  Can the bubble humidifier control heated transfer lines?
3.  Does the bubble humidifier have automatic refill of the water?
4.  What is the required feed pressure of the DI water?
5.  What is the maximum gas flow rate for the humidifier?
6.  How often should I drain the water from the humidifier?
7.  Can I operate the humidifier without a computer or with LabView.
1.  How does FiderisTM bubble type humidifier work?
FiderisTM bubble humidifier is fairly typical of sparger type humidification. The reactant gas is introduced at the bottom of a water reservoir through a frit or diffuser. As the reactant gas bubbles to the top, it reaches thermal equilibrium with the water reservoir and absorbs water from the reservoir. The temperature of the water is controlled to control the exiting dewpoint of the reactant gas.

2.  Can the bubble humidifier control heated transfer lines?
A FiderisTM bubble humidifier may be ordered with or without control for heated transfer lines. However, the use of heated transfer lines is recommended in all but a few configuration.

3.  Does the bubble humidifier have automatic refill of the water?
Yes. There is no need to relieve the pressure of the system or to interrupt the test to top off the water in the reservoirs. Furthermore, the humidification is more consistant when the level of the water in the reservoirs is maintained at a given level. For these reasons, all of the FiderisTM bubble type humidifiers have automatic water transfer.

4.  What is the required feed pressure of the DI water?
The humidifier may be provided with an internal repressurizing pump, allowing the input water pressure to be below the reactant gas pressure.

5.  What is the maximum gas flow rate for the humidifier?
The maximum gas flow rate will upon the desired exit dewpoint temperature and the reactant gas pressure, but as a starting point 10 lpm can be taken to 90C at atmospheric pressure; 15 lpm for 80C and 20 slpm for 70C. Bubble humidifers that operate on 208-240 can be ordered with higher power heaters so they can deliver 100% RH at higher dewpoints and flowrates. full humidification curves are available.

6.  How often should I drain the water from the humidifier?
The water should be drained approximately monthly if the testing cycle permits.

7.  Can I operate the humidifier without a computer or with LabView.
Yes. The bubble humidifier may be operated solely from the front panel, with FCPowerTM software, with LabView, or with temperature controller software from Omega.
